Why Eight Seconds

How it works

Clip length is what the model renders in one pass.

The clip is the unit

Most video models render five to ten seconds per generation. A sixty second piece is not one render, it is eight of them.

60s ÷ 8s = 8 shots

Remainders cost a whole clip

A four second tail still consumes one full generation. Rounding the runtime to a clean multiple is usually cheaper.

The first two seconds

Short-form retention is decided before the first clip ends. Shot one carries the hook, not shot two.

Hook = 0.0 – 2.0s

Even cuts read as flat

Identical shot lengths make the edit feel mechanical. Vary a few by a second or two once the grid is set.

Which clip length should I use?

Match it to the model you are generating with. Eight seconds is a safe default for current video models.

Does the remainder have to be a separate shot?

No. You can absorb it by stretching the other shots, which the table shows as an even split under the shot-count mode.

Is this tied to any particular tool?

No. It is plain arithmetic on runtime and clip length, so it works for any generator.
